Aim of the experiment
The aim of the activity test is to determine the metabolic activity of the lactic acid bacteria in the product.
The experiment is performed under conditions that simulate the effect of rehydration and the passage through the stomach. The forming of acids by the bacteria is being measured during time and is used to determine the metabolic activity. To distinguish the effect on activity from the effect on viable cell count, samples for cell counting are taken during the activity test. The test is regularly used and gives a good impression of the metabolic activity of the bacteria in the product.
In the chart the results of the activity test of Megaflora 9 are showed. The metabolic activity of the bacteria is still high after (simulation of) the passage through the stomach. Besides the total viable cell count isn’t hardly decreased, which implies the bacteria in Megaflora 9 do survive the passage through the stomach.Continue
